In keeping with the curriculum, two teachers conducted teaching and research activities about picture book readings this morning, April 11. Teacher Gong and Teacher Zhang hosted open classes this week, with a focus on utilizing picture books as tools of learning.
Based on this week's theme, Teacher Zhang chose the picture book "Where to Hide," which is the correct age level for the upper-class students. This book was about the familiar children’s game hide-and-seek. Teacher Zhang instructed the students to carefully observe the distinctive features of the animals in the book to help the fox find friends. The children were able to understand the simple sentences to guess the hiding place of the small animals and experience the pleasure of reading.
The picture book titled “The Turtle” was chosen by Teacher Gong to correspond with the students’ age level. The main character is a cute little turtle, which activates the child's interest. Throughout the lesson, Teacher Gong discussed the emotions of the story, and asked relevant questions for the children to better immerse themselves in the story.
The open classes provided teachers with a platform for dialogue, communication, and interaction with picture books. The picture book teaching and research not only tests the teachers' respective teaching wisdom, but also stimulates everyone's multi-perspective and omni-directional thinking on the picture book teaching activities. Teachers can learn from each other in comparison, and make every effort to avoid weaknesses and improve together, which effectively promotes the professional development of teachers and school-based teaching and research.
