Today, Rachel gave an English Open Class about shapes. The children looked at shapes and identified the ones we knew using ice-cream. The children are all familiar with ice-cream and were interested in building their own ice-cream using shapes. The children worked to stack their shapes carefully to create a masterpiece. After building their shape ice-cream, some of the students shared what shapes or patterns they used to create their own ice-cream. 

In the afternoon, the teachers met to discuss the lesson. The teachers praised the idea of using something that may seem 

abstract, like shapes, and making a connection to the real world through something that children recognize. This was a chance for all of us to reflect and think about how we can make our teaching connect to the real world.
